The Serbian language course held weekly at the Norwegian Embassy has been a great learning experience for the embassy staff – not only language wise but also cultural wise.
Only two of us completed the whole course but that was not due to the quality of the teaching but for other reasons such as tight work schedules and maternity leave. We have not attended any other Serbian language classes, so we have no comparison, but the content and progression of this course seems very sound and logical. Our teacher, Dunja, is besides a competent lecturer also a very nice and pleasant person to be in the class with. We can absolutely recommend this course to anybody wanting to learn about the Serbian language and culture.

Learning Serbian at first seemed quite a reach at my age, especially through an online course and in a very hectic working schedule. Serbian Corner and my teacher Dunja made it so easy. Never felt uncomfortable or pressured before and after the classes. Learning Serbian has turned out to be a joy for me. Beside the language, Dunja is always ready to help me better understand the culture and life in Serbia.

Недавно сам похађао курс „Konverzacijski kurs B1+“. Курс је био подељен по темама, сваки час је имао нову тему, на пример „серије“ или „код доктора“. Био је користан за проширење речника, али би било одлично када би теме биле актуелније, на пример „у министарству за странце“.6

Kurs je bio veseo i zabavan. Najzanimljivija stvar na kursu su, naravno, razgovori uživo, šale i diskusije o zanimljivim temama – i sve to ne onlajn, vec‌ lično. Kurs mi je dao motivaciju da se vratim gramatici i naučim vremena i padeže – haha!

I highly recommend the B1 communication course of Serbian Corner school to those, who already speak Serbian at some level, have studied grammar, but are afraid to speak. Dunja is an excellent teacher, and the small group classes were really useful. We were also able to participate in choosing the topics, so we practiced communication necessary for our everyday Serbian life. Our vocabulary improved, including slang. We received great materials on every class. I also found it useful that the classes were live. I will definitely continue next semester.

Konverzacijski kurs B1. Volim naš kurs jako! Bilo je veselo i korisno za mene, mislim počela da pričam slobodno zbog njega (i naših časova). Sve teme (kao socijalne mreže, kod lekara, itd) bile su vrlo korisne, koristila sam leksiku u životu često. I bilo je lako zbog toga šta imamo super društvo ❤️ nadam se da nastavimo u septembru!

My son is nine years old, and he has some passive knowledge of Serbian, but he needs more practice to start speaking the language. He lives in an English-speaking household; his father doesn’t speak English, so the only person he can talk to in Serbian is me, which is insufficient to learn the language proficiently. Another disadvantage is that my son was diagnosed with childhood apraxia when he was two and needed speech therapy to learn how to speak English. Apraxia made it difficult for him to pronounce the Serbian sounds. We are delighted to have found Aleksandra Milisavljevic and her online school “Serbian Corner” to support our family’s goal to raise our son to be bilingual. His teacher, Vesna, has been working with him wonderfully, with a lot of patience, humor, and understanding of the difficulties in pronouncing different sounds of the Serbian language. What I like the most is how cooperative and inclusive Serbian Corner is in accepting and initiating parental input on the best teaching approaches. They listen to the parents regarding their children’s interests and learning experiences, which is important considering the cultural differences between Serbian and American school systems, for example. Mateja has been making a lot of progress, and, to my great delight, he started saying complete sentences in Serbian when working with Vesna. I know that with more time and additional reinforcement at home, he will converse with me in Serbian daily. That would be a dream come true, and I will be forever grateful to the American Corner, Aleksandra, and Vesna.
